Aug. 27th, 2003 11:35 amI want to go see some films at the TIFF. But the question is what to see. I'm really, really tempted by the 1919 In God's Country.... It's (to my knowledge) Canada's first extant film.
Of course, there are two films starring Colin Firth showing.. one is showing as a Gala, which means he'll actually be on the stage for all of about 2 minutes to introduce the film before he goes back to chow down on expensive catered food and drink while we plebes watch the movie.
The only other film I've been to at the Festival was also a gala.. From Hell, on Sept 10, 2001. If I had the night to live over, I wouldn't have seen the film.
Hrm.. so I think i'll call Joel and ask his advice.....

Date: 2003-08-27 10:39 am (UTC)Right now, we're just doing dueling schedules, since I'm a pumpkin at 8pm on weeknights, and you're busy on weekends...
Are you working at Milton on Monday? If not, any other plans during the day?
Are you going to either A Day in the Country or Coronation?
If you're free Sunday night or Monday, that'd be my preference, since generally events are a crappy time for catch-ups.

Date: 2003-08-27 11:08 am (UTC)won't be at Day in the Country, because that's aibhilin & aeneas' handfasting for those what didn't get invited to the mostly-family-only wedding. should be at Coronation, and will also be at Baronial Leith on the 13th September. have to fit in visit to Mum's sometime soon, too.

If you're going to Coronation, do you have room for a lackey?

Date: 2003-08-27 11:08 am (UTC)I'm leaning that way myself. Not least of which because I figure that the Gala show is an adaptation of Girl with the Pearl Earring, and the other one is him in an ensemble piece with Hugh Grant and a few others about contemporary London couples. Ultimately, I suspect it'll be easier to get tickets for a period piece about the household life of a 17th century Dutch painter than for a modern piece with Hugh.
And I'd get to gaze upon His Firthness.
Sadly, though, Roy Thompson Hall isn't really the type of place you can hold up a sign that says "Marry me Colin!".
SHUT UP Arnora.. That was NOT a technical challenge!
