It's oh so quiet here at the office.
Today is Simcoe Day, which is Canadian for "an excuse to have a long weekend in August". We Canadians love our long weekends. About the only statutory holidays we have that *don't* fall on a Monday or Friday are Christmas/Boxing Day (kinda hard to float that one), New Years, and Dominion Day.
As a result, I drove in this morning in a notably stress free drive.
But Adrienne, you might ask, why are you working if it's a holiday there? Well, kiddies, gather closely, and I'll explain. I have to take Wednesday off for a doctor's appointment, so I figured that taking 2 days off was probably a bad idea. At some point they're going to notice that I'm only working full weeks one in two. Four of the eight weeks I've been here have been short. It's fine for me, because it's keeping me less stressy and worn-out.. but I don't think they'll be completely happy if it continues.
Fortunately, the appointment on the 13th to get the biopsy results is at 5 pm, so I can work till 2 or 3.
I never did write about GenCon, did I?

Date: 2003-08-06 09:21 am (UTC)In Ontario.
In other provinces, it can have other names. And some places, it's not a holiday.
The August holiday is actually a municipal holiday (at least in Ontario). It started in Toronto and spread.
The law that changed the name to simcoe day (passed in 1999) reads "If the head of the council of a local municipality proclaims the first Monday in August in any years as a civic holiday, the holiday shall be known as Simcoe Day."
