Honestly, I don't have a problem with little girls who love horsies and magic and pink; my concern at this point is the social pressure on little girls today to do so even if that's not their natural inclination.
If Mer Mer turns into a 3 year old who wants to wear a pink princess dress all the time, I'll be fine with that. But I'm going to fight like hell anyone who tries to force her into that box if she doesn't choose it herself.
::sighs:: and I can see it starting already -- I was out at Sears to buy the freezer, and was in the elevator with her in her car seat/stroller. Now, her car seat is lime green, as is the blanket that covers her in it; the car seat cover is navy blue, and she was wearing yellow. She had two receiving blankets supporting her head. And the two very nice older ladies in the elevator were cooing over her, and (as is inevitable, since I don't generally give the appropriate signals in her clothing) asked if she was a boy or a girl. When told she was a girl, one said "well of course she's a pretty little girl. I should have known! There's a bit of pink there!" And there was.. a tiny bit on the print of one of the receiving blankets.
The irony, of course, was that it was a receiving blanket that the_nita had handed-me-down from when her son was a baby.
