A few years ago, I posted about a disturbing pilot project by Homeland Security to put monitoring bracelets on asylum seekers (and, the report said, consider expanding it to all immigrants if it was a "success").

Just think about how much better that program would have been if the monitoring bracelets had also contained Tasers!

Actually, I think that's a brilliant device. We need to attach it to the people who bring their small kids to the movies/restaurants and let them run around. Every time the kids misbehave, we zap the parents...

I'm not sure what you mean by "Innocent Bystanders". IIRC, there was an Incident.

Yes, there was an Incident. An Incident that I could not credibly be call as a witness to. And why is that?

Is it because it occured 10 feet behind me? Yes, partially.

Is it because it occured out of my line of sight? Yes, partially.

Is it because my line of sight was obscured due to the walls that I couldn't see through? Yes, partially.

Is it because it occured in entirely another room of the house? Yes, partially.

Is it because it occured ten feet behind me, in another room, that I couldn't see because of the walls of your house? Why yes, that's why I couldn't be a witness. And if I couldn't be a witness under those conditions, clearly I couldn't be the perpetrator.

Hmmmm...let's address. This incident had never occurred before? Or since? And the only variable was your presence?

I believe we refer to that as proximate cause. At least it's good enough for Pookie.

That's because Pookie is kinda evil.

Besides, the Incident does not meet the standard of foreseeability. It could not reasonably have been predicted by my mere presence, because I had been present in the house many times before the incident, several of them in the same time frame and for the same reason (i.e. to watch the hockey playoffs) and on none of those prior occasions had any remotely similar incident occurred.

Thus, I could not have reasonably foreseen the incident would occur by my presence at the house.

Pookie may be convinced, but, again, she's kinda evil. And bitter.

That's a good question.. It may well be the longer of

a) the time I continue to be unjustly accused of the Incident

or

b) the time I still bear scars from her *beak*.
