Merry Christmas to all of my friends; I hope, now that it's almost over (unless you're Orthodox), that you all had a wonderful day.
I spent the day at my sister's place, opening presents, cooking, playing with my nephew, eating, and raising feminist consciousness among my immediate female relatives.* We had lamb, with roasted potatoes, peas, carrots, steamed broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus, and baked squash. And yes, it was a lot of vegetables, but damn were they all good. Especially my squash. I also spoke to my brother, sister-in-law, and two nieces.
Last night, I did laundry, and then spontaneously generated a new Christmas tradition for myself, by having hot chocolate with a splash of Godiva white chocolate liqueur by the tree while I wrapped all of the gifts I'd bought, and wrote personal, slightly sappy notes to all of my family members. I told them that it wasn't my fault; I'd been drinking.
And yesterday afternoon, I defied the laws of nature by fitting an entire 3-seat sofa into my hatchback, bringing it from my sister's house to mine, carrying it inside, and then (ok, this is the slight giveaway) assembling it. I'd gone on Sunday with my sister to IKEA to get my new sofa, which makes me very happy, though I was a little bit disappointed that my nephew's need for a nap prevented it from coming home on Sunday afternoon. Then I realized (after reading the directions helpfully provided with the slipcover) that it was all in pieces in the box, and therefore could be taken out of the box and fit into the car, because I have a hatchback, and hatchbacks are the kewlest. So I headed there again yesterday afternoon, after a spontaneous lunch with
real_jayde. And now there is much squeeing at my house, and sitting on the sofa.
Tomorrow is day five of my five day weekend. If I recall correctly, I have some sort of dinner planned with
jascha. And with that, I think I shall go to sleep, in order to better sleep in tomorrow.

* After a discussion of the statistical breakdown of work within the average north american home, and how my sister can actually ask her husband to help around the house when he gets home at 9pm when she's been working all day and won't finish up til 11, I was vastly amused when my mother's response to my father's request to get glasses for drinks for he and my b-i-l was "no, you can get them yourself". Hee!
