I went to see My Kid Could Paint That, a film about young painter Marla Olmstead at the Princess with
jascha's mother.
It started out as a documentary about modern art, and ended up as something different. I thought that the filmmaker made a fantastic film, though I'm not entirely sure I know what I believe about the provenance of the paintings. Certainly, I thought that Marla's mother felt very authentic, though her father less so. And the gallery owner comes off as a prize ass. The film is really about the adults and their relationships to the art, the ramifications of the art (fame, money, etc), and each other.
As my friend Joel says, it definitely is a movie that should be seen with someone who you can discuss it with afterwards. I wish I'd been able to do more of that with J, but I had to go do laundry.
