Silly drug companies
Aug. 21st, 2007 03:42 pmSo I'm switching medications, again, because Armour isn't available in Canada ("Thyroid" is, but it doesn't seem to actually be the same thing) and besides, my new endo gave me some compelling reasons to attempt a switch back to a synthetic T4/T3 combo.
Thus, I took in my prescription last week to the drugstore down the road from my home. (Yeah, I know, it's been sitting in my purse for a while. I wanted to finish out the Armour. I'm funny that way.)
The T4 was only a small problem -- eltroxin, the brand I would prefer to take, is unavailable in the dosage I need to take. Synthroid, the accursed brand that I despise, is, however, available in that dosage.
The bigger problem was the T3. They told me last week that they didn't have any in stock, but it'd be in yesterday. However, when I wandered in this morning, it was still not there; apparently, there's a wee bit of a backorder shortage in Canada. Since T3 is (as far as I'm concerned) not optional, that's a problem. It would appear that the old Canadian distributor has stopped distributing, and the new one (who I can't find the name of) hasn't picked up the slack yet. However, they were able to transfer the Cytomel prescription to a compounding pharmacy (yay compounding pharmacies) who was able to fill it.
This time at least.
Stupid drugs.

Date: 2007-08-21 04:55 pm (UTC)I've been on Armour, which has my Free T3 through the roof and my FT4 at the high end of normal, and my TSH at .01 or some such. But I feel pretty good on it.

Date: 2007-08-21 08:40 pm (UTC)My radiator blew out on my Pontiac as I was entering Winnipeg for a family reunion, and I dropped it off at a large chain automotive place to get it replaced. Now, this was a car being made in huge quantities as it was popular with rental companies, and was in its 9th year of production in its present form. Where I'd been living in South Tampa at the time, the closest half-dozen auto repair places had a multitude of radiators available on same day installation (I checked when I got home). From Winnipeg, the only two new radiators they could locate "nearby" were one in Saskatchewan and one near Detroit, and either would take about three days to get there! Sigh. I know, I know, it's probably from all the Americans importing your unsafe third world rdiators, right? Heh.
I miss Canada, any of the places I've stayed. Especially when I'm in Florida in August to start teaching a new batch of kiddies.
