Happy Last Day in Hell, Critus!

Well... hospital politics, anyway.

My mother is a senior nurse at the general hospital in Guelph. She's worked on what's now known as the Family Birthing Unit since before I was born. She's a fantastic nurse, and a fantastic manager of people.

A few years ago, the Head Nurse left, and my mother was offered the position, but turned it down, for various reasons. She ran the floor during the extended process of finding a new head nurse. The floor ran beautifully under her management, and she handed it over in fantastic shape to the woman they hired.

Who promptly ran it into the ground. Morale is at an incredibly low level, my mother is desperately unhappy, and she deeply regrets not taking the job.

Lynn, the woman running the floor was recently appointed Acting Director of Nursing for the hospital, in the wake of the resignation of the previous DoN. (A case of the outgoing DoN making the suggestion.. she's about the only person in the hospital who doesn't dislike Lynn.)

Lynn has appointed her favourite, Diana, to be the Acting Head Nurse. This after a number of the full time nurses wrote her a letter requesting that my mother be put in the position. My mother has known about it for almost a week now, and she's furious. She's off today, and Lynn picked today to make the announcement about Diana, via email.

The phone has been ringing off the hook with nurses from the floor calling mom to express their support. I've been screening calls.

The phone rang a while ago. It was Lynn. Mom had given me instructions to make it obvious that I was asking her if she wanted to talk to Lynn, and then tell Lynn no. So I did, and hung up on her.

I really don't like conflict. ::sighs::
