Seneschal - September 26, 1999
Sep. 26th, 1999 12:04 pmToday was our first wedding anniversary. It's also Shawn's mother's birthday. We saw some friends, took a walk, and washed the car. I love carwashes.
We have a minivan that we bought in June. It's a lovely Pontiac TranSport. I've put 16000 kilometers on it in the past three months, but it still has that new car feel.
A door to a part of my life that had been mostly closed got nudged open today. It's still kind of odd, mostly because of the lead up. Last week, I was thought I saw someone that I was sure was a friend of mine from Toronto. Same walk, same face. I actually got in my car at home and went back to look for her. She was nowhere in sight.
Last night, I saw a former roomate having coffee at a sidewalk cafe, again with someone who looked like my friend from Toronto. Finally, this morning on our walk, Shawn stopped to look at something on the ground, and when I looked up, it was her. Walking towards us, and waving. It turns out that she's here for school, and has been trying to find a way to get in touch.
This is the closed door part. Most of the people that we knew together a few years ago are people I don't see. Some of them because I simply lost touch, and some of them because of dead and buried unpleasantness. So none of them know anything about me anymore. It was mostly chance that had us meeting up this morning. But I'm awfully glad it happened.
