Furniture lust. Feel free to move along.
Jan. 12th, 2005 12:45 pmRoss and I, while waiting to pick up John at his school yesterday, stopped by the Wood You in New Port Richey.
They have a lovely, lovely wood table there that I completely and totally covet.
It's a "gathering table". (That one is the mission style. At the store in NPR we saw the farmhouse style. Personally I prefer the mission.)
It's 36 inches tall, and the chairs are correspondingly lengthier in the leg. When the leaf is in it, 54 inches square. I figure I could put 8 people around it.
But the *best* part? Because of the height and size of it, it would make a *fantastic* cutting table (with, of course, some cutting mats.)
I want the table so so badly. It has all the benefits of a large round table, plus some extra ones besides.

Date: 2005-01-12 07:23 pm (UTC)One option that I'd looked at myself is the LAURILA line from IKEA.
The dining table is 47 inches long and 39 inches wide. It's a little bit narrower than your average dining table.
Match it with the half-round tables.
If you get the dining table plus two half rounds, you have an incredibly versatile setup. The half rounds can go against a wall somewhere as occasional tables, and when you're actually serving, you can use them in three configurations:
1) dining table alone
2) dining table with both half rounds at either end for more guests
3) dining table off to the side and the two half rounds making a round table for a more intimate dinner.
To get all three pieces would be about 290 from the IKEA website.
