One wouldn't think you'd have to tell people that, but...

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) -- Amateur hurricane-busters have come up with any number of crackpot ideas to spare Florida from ferocious storms. Among them: blowing hurricanes away with giant fans or blowing them up with nuclear warheads.

"Suggestions have included coating the surface of the water with olive oil; towing an iceberg down to Florida to cool down the water temperature; or building large fans on the coast to blow away approaching storms."

I'm sure the marine wildlife would absolutely love that first idea. And really, after the Exxon Valdez, is it really necessary for the kitty-korner part of the USA to do its part for marine habitat destruction?

Some perspective, people, please.

Oh, come on. This is Jacksonville we're talking about. They don't have family trees for the most part; they have sod.

Admittedly, there are some exceptions that happen to reside in the Hellmouth, but there are more idiots overall, IMO.

And no, I'm originally from Atlanta. :D

Fizzies don't like olive oil, as far as I am aware. Also, they're not real keen on rapid changes in the water temperature.

I still think the best idea is to lure the hurricanes away with dancing girls and liquor. Stage the distraction in Cozumel. We'll be safe.

absorbant crystals are part of what makes amerika strong. and besides: we all know fish aren't those smelly things from the ocean - they're those breaded tube-shapes in the frozen food section! so *no problem*

jeez...

now quit yer whinin' and pass me the bottle of skweez-cheez, please.

How about building homes that are hurricane-proof along with more shelters? I mean, if you know an area will get hit every year... uh.... yeah. Easy one. Like a tornado shelter in Oklahoma. Mandatory.
