There is a town in north Ontario,
With dream comfort memory to spare,
And in my mind
I still need a place to go,
All my changes were there.
Blue, blue windows behind the stars,
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky,
Throwing shadows on our eyes.
Leave us
Helpless, helpless, helpless
Baby can you hear me now?
The chains are locked
and tied across the door,
Baby, sing with me somehow.
... left me in tears last night when k.d. sang it.
As I mentioned to Misha, she's in the middle of a tour to promote her new album. She's being backed by symphony orchestras in the various cities she's playing. (The show is coming to Toronto on the 17th and 18th, btw, at Roy Thompson.)
Ross won tickets for us at work, and very good seats they were too. 12th row, pretty much directly in the middle.
The full orchestra did a five piece set of new music by (what I assume was) their in-house composer. A simply brilliant piece called Freeway State of Mind, and a beautiful piece called Solace stand out. Of course, they also did a piece that the conductor described as "Celtic, with attitude".
It was a nice piece, but no-one who's ever heard Ashley MacIsaac would ever in a million years describe it thus.
Now, I have to admit something. I was somewhat indifferent to k.d.lang before last night. I liked Constant Craving and Miss Chatelaine well enough. I was never a fan of Orbison, and so their duet of Crying has always left me cold.
But she made a believer out of me last night. She has an incredible voice, a fantastic stage presence, and a sense of humour to die for. I now believe that k.d. more than makes up for having sent Celine to you all.
Only one disappointment -- she *didnt* sing Case of You, which was on the playlist, and is one of my favourites.
