Can someone explain to me, please, why illegal aliens who otherwise fit the demographics are required to register for the draft?

If they're illegal, explain to me how the government knows that they're there to register? This sounds like a "if you're dumb enough to lift your head up" sort of scenario.

Well, yeah. That occured to me too.

I also wondered if it wasn't just one more thing to throw at the illegals.. basically none of them are going to register (probably they don't even know they're supposed to), so when they find an illegal doing something else, then this is one more thing to get them with.

Of course, they don't really need anything else, since being here illegally is a deportable offence, and one thing the US doesn't need is more people to lock up.

Anyway, that's why it's kinda confusing to me.

BTW, have you and P talked about what happens when LB hits 18?

Yup - he'll register, and it's *his* decision - and if he doesn't want to answer the draft, should they call him, then he reliquishes his US citizenship, and voila, done.
