Well I think there is one in Miami and that one is only 5 hours away. So......I think some of us need to save up some money, rent a truck and make an IKEA trek down to Miami one weekend.
If there's one in Miami, the ikea-usa.com site does not list it. Atlanta isn't that much further away (7 hours, according to MapQuest) and so doing a group trip up isn't out of the question.
Though if we do manage to get one into Florida, Ross tells me that Miami will be the likeliest first store. It's my mission in life to spread the gospel, so that more people are willing to do the trip, and make it clear to the nice people at IKEA USA that there's a market in FL.
Honestly, I am surprised they haven't built one in the area. At least Orlando!
I have been to an IKEA only once and it was in Morocco of all places. I couldn't be dragged out of the store! It was very small though and was in a mall (of sorts). Still, they had awesome modular furniture and all kinds of nifty stuff.
Of course, IKEA can also suck with the power of a thousand flaming suns... it's like that. I love it, but I also hate it -- they tend to discontinue things without warning, and it's not so much that they discontinue a piece.. but when you're collecting pieces in a modular set, and then poof, it's no longer for sale, well.... it makes you wonder if Don subcontracts out his hockey stick skills.
We have 2 near us in NJ. One a 1/2 hour away. One 10 minutes away (newly built, closed on Sundays to comply with local blue laws). My son's crib and changing table come from there :)
The one that just opened near us in Parmus, NJ was packed when it opened. Alan (17 months) likes to play in the baby size ball basket they have :)
I think this is the furthest north, northeast US store, right at the cross roads of 2 major routes and across from a the largest mall in Nothern NJ, so they expected a lot of traffic

Date: 2004-03-14 05:39 pm (UTC)All I have from IKEA is a hot pink shower curtain and a hot pink circular rug (trust me, it works). It was cheap and that is why I love them.
What I really hate is that what I want to order from their site, they won't allow mail order on it. Simple stupid things like blankets or curtains!

Still, you can order from their site, but the items are limited, that's all.

And they're all full, all the time. And there's one in Ottawa, which is about five hours away.
