hel is the proud mama of three sewing machines, though she only uses her Pfaff. (It used to be four, but she lent one indefinitely to ilana_jayne.)

Given that hel wants to promote marital harmony, it occurs to hel that dragging all of her non-used sewing machines halfway across the continent is not the wisest of ideas.

Thus, hel wants to sell at least one of the machines, specifically the early 50's era working Singer Featherweight, along with cabinet.

Other important information:

  • the cabinet, bench, and machine together make shipping completely out of the question.

  • hel does not have an ebay account. Her husband would have to list it.

  • hel would ideally like to maximize the money she gets

  • New factor: hel is confined to the house for the most part, and has to do this transaction before the end of March, while feeling, for the most part, like warmed over crap

Thus, we come to the question:

Dunno about max proce, but for ease and speed pf sale mention it on the elist. Someone will come and get it. As you say, shipping is pretty mch out of the question, so ebay makes no sense. You might try a local paper ad, or ask a sewing machine shop if they do consignment...

I'd suggest the ebay/median price thing, but I'd also want to check with local antique shops if they would be interested or would be willing to sell it on consignment.

Of course, if you can find someone who collects antique sewing machines (my ex-MIL was one)... They might be more than willing to pay the shipping. An attempt at Ebay wouldn't hurt...
