My claim for the Canadian Child Tax Benefit was denied because.. according to them, I'm not a resident.
We'll ignore for the moment that the address they sent the denial to was in Kitchener and had a Canada Post postal code.
While they have a record of me leaving, they "have no record of your immigration", which isn't really surprising since Canadian citizens are not required to *immigrate* when they return to Canada. In fact, border services would not put a stamp in my passport stating that I returned from living abroad.
So now I have to go combing through all of my old records, hoping I kept the piece of paper that they did sign, which was a simple, printed piece of paper that they gave me so I'd have residential proof for my health card. I've also gathered up old leases, insurance statements, my maternity EI benefits ROE, and have emails out for letters attesting to my living here in 2007 and working in the office.
This is a gigantic pain in the ass, especially since I've been filing taxes from inside Canada since 2007.
