Home from another exciting enamelling class, where I managed to overturn not one, but two just-pulled-from-the-kiln pieces onto their just-enamelled sides. It's great, because the glass at that point is still malleable, so they stick to whatever they land on. Which, in this case, is the mesh "firing rack" that you put the "trivets" on.*

Plus, I dropped another just-out-of-the-kiln piece, metal side down, on the wood workbench. There are two effects of this: first, you get a burnt spot on the wood, and second, you get bits of charcoal on the piece, which have to come off before you can enamel it, because glass doesn't form a molecular bond with wood the way it does with copper.

::sighs:: I'm a complete and total klutz. And, what's worse, I spread the klutz-sickness to others; one of the other girls spilled a piece off her trivet directly onto the floor of the kiln.

I'm currently 2 weeks behind, and I'm going to get another 2 weeks behind by the next time I'm in class. Fortunately, Catherine (the instructor) let me know tonight that there is studio time available, if I call to arrange it, to get caught up on my projects.

Plus I learned how to do wet-packing. And we're starting on Cloisonné. I just have to figure out what I want to do for that.

Sort of melancholy now that I'm home, because I'm a silly selfish princess. And tomorrow I'll be ok.

Sleep now.

*in enamelling, a trivet is a metal stand for the piece being enamelled. They come in all sorts of forms and sizes, suitable for a variety of enamelling pieces. They sit on top of the firing rack, which is relatively easy (unless you're a spaz like me) to pick up with the firing fork. Line drawings, for the curious, of all these nifty items can be seen here.
