SCA Meme

1. What is your SCA name?
Which one? Currently it's Katharine Townsende, but I'm on my third.
2. What is your home kingdom?
Ealdormere
3. Have you ever lived in another kingdom? If so, where?
Trimaris, and the Middle, when Ealdormere was a Principality
4. Do you remember your first SCA event? When/what was it?
A little camping event that Bryniau put on as a result of a challenge from House Venshavn, and which was primarily attended by Bryniau people. My first big event came a few months later at Ealdormere's 4th Coronet tourney when Roak made Tarquin his Princess for the first time. I have two very clear memories of the event: 1st was Tang and David (at that point king and queen of the Middle) during court, because they really were quite striking. Second was the consternation that Roak winning caused. ("He's a Rozakii. Can a Rozakii be Prince?")
5. Do you have any awards? (You don't have to list them if you don't want)
Yep. And some pretty scrolls, too (Thanks Mavie!)
6. Do you list them after your name in communications like e-mail?
Uh.. no.
7. Do you have a device?
no, not yet
8. Do you use it? On what?

9. Are you on all the kingdom/society lists available to you, or do you avoid them?
I'm on some. I like getting email. It makes me feel loved.
10. Do you keep your Pennsic/Estrella/Gulf Wars/etc. site tokens?
For all of the two times I've been to Pennsic in the last 15-odd years, yes, I do.
11. Do you keep the favours you've been given by royalty/friends/Sos, etc.? Do You wear them all?
I don't think I've ever been given a one.
12. Do you call your friends by their SCA names even when you're not at an event?
For people who I don't know really well, I call them by the SCA names all the time. I call people who I'm close to by exactly the name that's relevant in the context I'm talking to/about them in. So if I'm talking about, for example, my best friend in the context of R&G, I refer to Karen. If I'm referring to some project she's working on, I'll call her Arnora. And if I'm talking about her to someone who only knows her through LJ, I'll use her LJ handle. It has a tendency to drive some people nuts, though.
13. Do you go out to dinner in garb after an event?
Sometimes, yes.
14. Do you have all kinds of garb, or do you generally stick to one period?
I principally did Norman for the first dozen years, and now I do Tudor, pretty much exclusively. (Though Brigit's cotehardie is so very, very pretty that I'm tempted.)
15. How many interests do you have within the SCA? What's your favourite
Favourite is obviously costuming. During the time I was in Trimaris, the SCA has been primarily been a justification for my Tudor costuming habit. I'm also interested in its adjuncts (millenry, embellishment of diverse types, dying, etc). I'm casually interested in tapestry weaving. But mainly fibre arts. And, of course, people.
And yes, I'll admit it here. I'm utterly obsessed with hats. The whole english burgher's wife outfit? the one I've been planning and researching on and off for a while now? I decided to do it because I want to try the hat.
16. Do you have an SCA-oriented web site (to show off projects, keep dress diaries, etc.)?
Yes but I need to update it.
17. Do you maintain a hairstyle that is more period style than modern? How about any other part of your appearance?
No. I maintain a hairstyle that I can braid into something that will fit under a coif. And I keep a pair of not horribly modern glasses (that also work well as lightweight workout glasses).
18. Do you tell "No, kidding, there I was" stories? (Admit it.)
I tell stories sometimes about funny things that I've seen/done, yes.
19. Authenticity is Fun. Yes or no?
Well, duh. If it's not fun, why do it?
20. Is there one modern thing at events that really bugs you?
People not wearing headgear when they should be.
Bonus Question! 21. Everyone has a shameful garb/accessory mistake hidden somewhere in their past. What's yours?
Oh, that might well be a tie between the first bliaut I ever made, which was a lovely light blue poly-cotton sheeting (it was wide enough to cut the two pieces out of in one piece) and the cotehardie w/sideless surcoat; the cotehardie was made of such a terribly thin silk that I feared for the seams.
