The third day of Christmas
Dec. 27th, 2004 09:53 amSo I like Christmas. A lot. It’s one of my favourite holidays, and has been for a long time. But this Christmas was especially cool, since it was the first time I got to play Santa. There are just no words.
We slept in Friday, getting up in time (just barely) to hit the grocery store for supplies. We were shopping for both Saturday’s meal, and the coffee hour after church. I served on the altar during the mass. It was the family service, so the kids did a retelling of the Christmas story. After mass, we served up soup and sandwich fixings in the parish hall, cleaned up, and then went to get John.
We actually made it out to M&K’s party for much longer than I had expected us to. We had a great time, and then went home to read bedtime stories and wrap a few last minute things. After John was asleep, we put out the Santa gifts, and then dropped into bed.
Now, my step-son is the best kid in the world. How do I know this? He’s 6, and yet he let us sleep until 8:30. He absolutely loved his presents, and Ross completely shocked me with something he got for me. Ross started reading Birds of Prey at around issue 45, so there were a whole bunch of issues that I haven’t read. About a month or so, I got issue 1 at Emerald City, and I figured it would be a long term project to work through the first issues. But while I was in Canada, Ross was apparently combing the comic shops of Tampa Bay, and tracked down the balance of the first 10 issues (except #4). I was completely blown away.
We had a great Christmas Day – saw some friends, spent the day with Ross’ family, and Whitney was able to get off work. I talked to my family in the evening, after we dropped John off. We then headed out to Tampa to see Closer with a friend and Whitney. We’re definitely going to get it on DVD when it comes out.
Sunday, I went back to church while Ross slept, and then I came home for a nap. Later in the afternoon, we headed out to Target, spending most of our giftcards on presents for other people, but I did get a new sheet set and the Pride and Prejudice DVD. While Ross went to play poker, I watched some of the special features and caught up on some email.
The only thing I didn’t get a chance to do was call Karen.
