Question for the ladies

Question for my female friends ...
So I'm considering jumping ship from the land of oral contraceptives.. between my concerns about estrogen impacting my medication and today's news about study linking migraines and stroke, suggesting that women who get migraines and take birth control are at 8 times the normal risk for stroke, I'm starting to look at jumping off the good ship ortho7/7/7.
However, one does need a lifeboat. So, do any of you have experience with temporary birth control methods other then the pill? Willing to share?
And please note, the temporary is important. I realize many of my friends are "don't want children ever" types, and that's cool. I'm just a "can't have children now" type.
Thanks in advance.
